Rev. John Cooper Jr. was born and raised in the Niagara Falls area and graduated from Niagara Wheatfield High School. His family has been in Niagara Falls for generations, serving in the military, business community, civic organizations, and the Underground Railroad.
After receiving his bachelor’s degree in pastoral ministry from Clarks Summit University, John served in the United States Army Infantry as a Sniper Section Leader in the 25th Infantry and 10th Mountain Divisions, completing one combat tour of duty in Afghanistan.
Following his military service, John served in military ministry in Watertown, New York, and attended seminary. He and his family returned to Niagara Falls in 2022, and John joined the staff at Niagara Gospel Mission. He became executive director January 1, 2024. “I have a passion for the city of Niagara Falls and its people,” he says. “I believe change in our city happens one soul at a time, starting with those who are most in need. We as Christians must share the light and love of Jesus with the needy here in our backyard. The Lord Jesus Christ died and rose again so every person may come to Him and be saved. We believe that message changes lives, families, and cities.”
John is pursuing a Master of Divinity in leadership from Liberty University. He and his wife Liz and their four boys live in Niagara Falls.
